Books – Browsing the shelves Books on DIY for different topics such as home or garden or mechanical things are found in different parts of the book collection.
In the 643s are books on home renovation and DIY.
In the 690s are house building and other construction tips.
Between 712 and 717 there are many garden based DIY topics.
In the 620s you will find books on boat-building at 623.8 and car manuals at 629.2222.

Searching the Catalogue The area is quite large so to find information on a particular aspect of DIY, try searching our online catalogue using Quickfind and type in the keyword(s) you want e.g.
- DIY or do it yourself will bring up titles where these words appear somewhere in the catalogue record
- Home maintenance
- Bicycle maintenance
- House painting
- Home decorating
- Garden construction
- Woodwork* - will capture all titles with words like woodwork, woodworking or woodworker somewhere in the catalogue record.
Use the Quickfind search as above to find your specific needs.
If the Quickfind search brings up too many titles or titles that are not relevant go into one title which is similar to what you want and note the subject heading. Select Subject as the search field e.g. you may want a book about building a garden barbeque. If you put Barbecues (Fireplaces) -- Design and construction -- Amateurs' manuals in the Subject search box it will bring up all subject headings relating to construction projects in the garden, tick the boxes at the side of the headings:
