Who can join the Tasman District Libraries??
It is free to join if you are a Tasman District resident or ratepayer, or if you attend an educational institution in the district.
Non-residents and visitors can join for a subscription of $10 per month, or $80 per year.
How do I join the library?
You can join at any of our libraries, either the District Library in Richmond, or in one our branch libraries - Motueka Public Library, Murchison Public Library or Takaka Memorial Library.
We ask you to fill in a library application form, and we need to see two forms of identification – one with your signature or photograph (e.g. drivers licence, bank card) – and one which has your current residential address (e.g. rates demand, bank statement, electricity account)
If you are under 18 we will need a parent or caregiver to fill out and sign the application form.
Using the library
Your Tasman District library card allows you to borrow items from any of our libraries. Please bring your library card with you when you visit the Libraries. We recommend that you do not share your library card, as you are responsible for all items borrowed using your card.
Please notify us if you change your address or lose your card as soon as possible.
You can bring items back to any of our libraries when we are closed by returning them into our after-hours bins.
How many items can I have out at one time?
You can borrow up to 15 items on your card at one time
How long do I have items for?
The usual loan period is 3 weeks. If you prefer to have a longer time we can issue items for 6 weeks.
Am I able to renew my items?
You can renew items by either coming into the library, ringing up, or online by using the catalogue (a PIN number is needed for this). Items cannot be renewed if they have been reserved. Items may be renewed twice. If an item is from a rental collection, there will be a rental charge for renewal.
