Tasman Skate Park Tour
Tasman Skate Park Tour
From Takaka to Brightwater the Tasman Skate Park Tour stopped off at six locations during the inaugural tour held over summer. Organised by Tasman District Council Community Recreation Officer Cindus Colonna & myself, the tour was sponsored by Dickies, Cheapskates, Traffick and DVS and received loads of support from the Tasman Youth Council who provided help with setting-up and judging.
Each comp featured both a skate and BMX competition. Participants also sneaked in a few mountain bikes and scooters, although the competition was primarily for BMX and skate.
Depending on the layout of the skate park the competitions were either one minute individual runs or a combined jam session.
Motueka riders dominated the BMX division with Tyler Knox winning five out of the six competitions in his age group. Tyler missed the van for Mapua so Jonny Bonnar another Motueka rider took out the title for number one spot.
In the open BMX section there were no competitors in Takaka and it rained in Richmond. In Motueka Jarrod McLaughlin came in first while Jake Prebble took out the Tapawera, Mapua, and Brightwater competitions.
The skate competition was also popular with a wide range of tricks coming through in both the junior and open categories & skateboard judge Andrew Pope was stoked to see so many of you guys turning out some wicked tricks on your skateboards.
Cheers to all the people that put time, effort and money into running this tour, check out the cool photos and get practicing for next summer because I’m sure the tour will be back.
