Summer reading programme

28 November 2006

Tasman District Libraries will start enrolling children for the "Don't Monkey About - Read" summer reading programme from 9.30am on Monday 4 December 2006.

If last year was anything to go by, it will be a case of ‘don’t monkey about, get down and enrol’ as the limited places are usually snapped up quickly. In 2005 Richmond experienced queues from 9.30am and all places were filled before the end of the first day of enrolments.

“Since we began our summer programme six years ago with "Chill Out and Read" More than 1300 children have been involved and they have received fun rewards for reading daily during the summer holidays,” said Librarian Lucy Brunwin.

“More than 400 places are available in our four libraries - Richmond, Motueka, Murchison and Takaka. This year we once again have some great incentives to keep kids reading.

“Feedback from parents has been very positive - the one to one experience of telling a librarian about what they've been reading is very motivating for children,” Lucy said.
